The Oil Cleansing Method

So, y'all know my obsession over natural beauty products, right?  Well, this one takes the cake for being my favorite.  I mentioned the OCM (oil cleansing method) before, saying I was going to give it a try.  But, I never truly gave it a fair shot.  I would try it for a few days, not see the results I wanted, and I would give up.  I figured my skin must not be right for the OCM.  I decided to give it a go again a couple weeks ago.  Now that I have stuck with it... I L-O-V-E oil cleansing!

Allow me to explain.  I have had acne since I was probably 11 years old.  I figured it would clear up as an adult, but it didn't.  I have seriously tried EVERY single thing; prescriptions from doctors, soaps, infomercial cure alls, everything lining the aisles in Target... nothing seems to really work.  I did try switching to all natural soaps, and those did help a lot... But still would leave my skin dry and dull looking.  Now as an adult, I still break out, but I am developing fine lines and very dry, dull skin, along with very large pores.

I started the OC method a couple weeks ago, and my skin is the happiest it has ever been.  I am exfoliating, as well (with all natural remedies).  My skin is supple, smooth, and the biggest surprise is my pores appear to be looking SMALLER!  Now, here is the truth... I do get the occasional zit.  But, over all, my skin is very happy.

Here is how I use the OC method:

Morning and evening I mix about half a teaspoon of jojoba oil, and half a teaspoon of castor oil together on my palms.  I massage my face for few minutes, and then rinse all of the oil off.

I bought my jojoba oil at Trader Joe's, and my castor oil at Whole Foods (although you could buy both at Whole Foods).  A small bottle of each lasts FOREVER.  So, not only is this method safe, easy, and effective- it is very cost efficient.

For more info, try googling "The Oil Cleansing Method."

So, what do you think?  Have you tried the OCM, or will be brave and give it a go?  Let me know!

  3. hey! Did you know oil for your hair works too. I used to put oil on my hair and it made it silky and smooth. For someone with curly hair, that's amazing. But since your hair's amazing as it is, you don't need to do anything.

  5. Sounds like something I should give a go. Like you, I've had acne my whole life, and HORRIBLE large pores! :( and I thought they'd all go away one day. Are you still doing the honey thing? Did that work? Can you combine the oil and honey methods?

  6. Do you use the oil cleansing method in place of other facewash or in addition to? What methods are you using to exfoliate? I never used to get acne much and when I was pregnant my skin was clear as can be even without facewash but lately I've been breaking out constantly and I've tried so many different things with no luck! Gonna look into the OCM :)

  7. hm.. this is super interesting, and I would like to give it try but I live on a tropical island, which means its humid ALL THE TIME! jajaja! I wonder if the OCM would make my face too greasy for the climate I live in. Any idea?

Oh! And I read your guest post on Michelle's blog.. thanks for the beauty tip!

  9. I've always been very skeptical about this...curious but skeptical. It's not just about results for me but what is actually good for your skin in the long run. I definitely need to research this more!

  11. I definitely need to look into this more! I have the same skin problems as you and I'm so tired of spending all my money on top of the line products that only give mediocre results.

(it's good to have you back!) :)

  12. I've heard a lot about this and really want to give it a try! Your skin sounds a lot like mine. It kinda weirds me out to put oil on my face, but I really might go for it now. :)

  14. What about make up removal though? That's what always stops me from trying something awesome like this, I know it'll make my skin healthier but I worry it won't remove all my makeup and result in more breakouts. Are you using anything else for makeup removal or does this just work great all by itself? How much do the oils cost? I'd love to try this! Love you, and I missed you! Welcome back to blogging, I hope you had a wonderful break :)

  15. I've never tried ocm but it sounds like a great idea. I've been using a tea tree oil exfoliating scrub and have not seen one breakout.

  16. I've never tried that, you'd think oil would make it greasier wouldnt you? Maybe i'll try this when i break out next xx

  17. Okay so your post got me so curious I ended up e-mailing my old Esthetics professor to get her take. AND much to my elation, she said that olive oil was GREAT for skin because oil attracts oil. She wasn't sure about castor oil but offered to look into it. I'm pretty excited though because this seems like a great affordable/natural way to care for your skin! :)

  18. Wow! This looks really great! I too suffer from adult acne and have tried everything under the sun. I saw a HUGE improvement when I started using ONLY coconut oil to remove my makeup/wash my face. So I totally believe in the power of oils! : D I'm definitely going to try this - thanks so much for sharing!

  20. I've read about this method before and tried it...it really does improve the look/feel/health of my skin! I was curious what type of natural "scrub" you use, and if you use any natural/organic makeup and hair products. Thanks!

  21. I've recently suffered a miscarriage and am left with unbearable acne. I'm totally giving this a whirl!

  22. Too funny! I've been using the "oil method" for about a month now, and I love it. I do still have hormonal acne, but it's manageable now, and I don't have to use tons of product on my face. I actually massage the oil in, and then get a washcloth wet with water that's as hot as I can stand it, drape the washcloth over my face, and just let it sit for a little bit and "steam" out the dirt...that feels great!
I'd be interested, too, in knowing what kinds of scrubs you're using...that's the next thing I want to try!

  23. Hhhmmm may have to give it a go!

  24. I swear by OCM! I use olive oil/ castor oil, and sometimes straight sweet almond. The issue is that like dissolves like. There is NO greasy to it, because it doesn't strip your skin of its natural oils, so that it feels the need to overproduce in order to compensate for being robbed of it with synthetic soaps. It takes off makeup better than anything I have ever seen, and if you want to do a natural scrub...straight baking soda made into a paste with some water is the best microderm abrasion there is!!! I'm so glad you found this! I actually felt lied to and cheated after I found OCM. It literally costs pennies a month, and does more for my skin than anything I ever spent a mint on.

  32. I just ordered my jojoba oil and castor oil. I can't wait to try it. I am also trying the no shampoo method too.:) I have had acne forever it seems. I was trying birth control and it worked but I didn't want to take it the rest of my life. not to mention, i just don't feel comfortable taking it. Anyway, I hope it works for me, no harm in trying and I'll be blogging about my results.

  33. For those who are not into mixing your own stuff, origins makes a great oil cleaning product, and you can buy a pump that makes the process mess free. There several types of oils, but they are all natural as well.
